Magic in your Hands

Each of the 78-cards are collaged from hand-cut paper images

My Tarot Story

It all started with The Emperor card and Kendall Jenner’s metal armor boots in Vogue…

When my own life was having a “Tower” moment from experiencing grief of losing dear loved ones to corporate burnout - I began learning the Tarot to find answers to life’s existential questions. I’ve always been a big believer in creativity and its power to heal. The more I learned the meanings, messages, and secrets of the Tarot, the more I began seeing similar imagery in modern day fashion magazines.

Thus, the Tulip Magic Tarot Deck was born.

I had 1,000s of images and magazines in my personal archives waiting to be turned into TAROT MAGIC. Collage art has always helped me navigate and alchemize my intense emotions and deep feelings and this was the perfect passion project to dive into. Little did I know it would take me two magical years of creation!

The Rider-Waite-Smith deck was created in 1909 and is the most produced Tarot Deck to-date. Its images were created by the amazing Pixie Coleman Smith and have been studied and revered by Tarot Lovers for decades. The symbolism and meanings are endlessly interpreted from the characters, colors, backgrounds, and the usage of ancient imagery. Match the cards side-by-side with the Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot deck to see the play of imagery come to life!

A Family Affair

As I collaged from my own collection of paper cutouts of 20 years, I had a hard time finding swords for the 14-cards of the Swords Suit. Therefore, I asked if I could dip into my Father’s sacred collage stash he’d been collecting and coveting since the 1950’s. As a result, his collection helped me cross the finish line at the final hour and it has been nothing short of amazing to collaborate with my Dad in an artistic way. Now, we have a legacy as artists together printed in this set of Tarot cards.

Another key player in the Tarot making game was my Mother-in-Law who helped me find these collage treasures in my 1,000s of magazine cutouts. We organized, filed, and sorted for months to find images that fit the vibe and colors of the Rider-Waite-Smith illustrations. She herself has an great and keen artistic eye and I wouldn’t have made all 78-cards within two years if not for her!
